Every FANDR Homestead begins as an idea.
The FANDR Concept Studio is where we explore those ideas. We use advanced visualisation tools alongside real building knowledge to test proportion, material, form and character long before a single plan is drawn.
These aren't stock designs, and they're not images created simply to look good. Each concept is an exploration of what a FANDR Homestead could become, grounded in the same principles that guide the way we build: natural materials, intelligent simplicity, old world craftsmanship and homes made to last for generations.
Some concepts will develop further than others. Some may evolve into fully resolved FANDR Homesteads. Others are ideas we're still working through, testing them against real sites, real budgets, structure and buildability.
That's part of the process.
We start with the idea, then work backwards. We question how it stands up, how it goes together, which materials are best suited to it, what craftsmanship is required, and how we can build it without adding unnecessary complexity or cost.
We show the ideas as well as the finished work because we believe the thinking behind a home matters.
Every concept belongs to one of three FANDR architectural families. Each has its own language, but all share the same philosophy.

the CHAPEL collection
Simple form. Strong presence.
Chapel takes its cues from rural churches, old halls and the enduring simplicity of traditional gabled buildings.
Strong rooflines sit over substantial walls, using stone for depth, shadow and permanence, balanced with natural timber.
Inside, the structure becomes part of the architecture. Exposed timber ceilings, rafters and beautifully expressed trusses
celebrate the craftsmanship involved in putting the building together.
There is a strong European and Tuscan influence in some of the masonry, but the intention isn't to reproduce something from
another time or place.
It's about taking a form that has worked for centuries and reinterpreting it as a FANDR Homestead, designed for the Australian
landscape and the way we live today.

the BARN collection
Built with purpose.
Barn draws inspiration from the working agricultural buildings that have long been part of the Australian landscape.
The forms are broad and uncomplicated, creating generous volumes, shelter and a strong connection to the land.
Heavy timber framing plays a major role. Rather than hiding the structure behind layers of finishes, we explore ways for
the frame itself to become part of the home.
Expressed posts, beams, rafters and trusses are built using traditional framing techniques.
Timber cladding, exposed structure and simple roof forms give these FANDR Homesteads their character.
Timber looks like timber. Structure is allowed to be seen. The work of the craftsman becomes part of the finished home.
The beauty comes from proportion, material and the hands that put it together.
the GRACE collection
Where strength meets refinement.
Grace is where the strength and simplicity of Barn meets the presence and proportion of Chapel, creating something of its own.
The architectural language becomes freer.
Stone can sit beside timber. Lime washed masonry can soften heavier forms. Exposed structure can meet quieter, more refined spaces.
Different volumes can come together to create courtyards, wings, verandahs and places of shelter.
We favour materials with substance and character. Masonry and lime render, natural timber, stone and crafted steel are chosen not only
for how they look when they're new, but for how they perform, age and can be maintained over generations.
Grace isn't about adding more.
It's about resolving a FANDR Homestead well enough that we can use less. Fewer unnecessary layers. Simpler forms. Better materials.
Greater attention to the things that matter.
A home with strength, warmth and, above all, grace.

FROM CONCEPT TO HOMESTEAD
The concepts you see here aren't finished houses pretending to be built projects.
They're beginnings.
A concept gives us a direction. It might begin with a proportion, a material palette, a roof form, a feeling, or simply one idea worth pursuing.
From there, we take the elements you love and begin developing them around something much more important:
Your land. Your family. Your budget. The way you want to live.
That's when the real design work begins.
We test the idea against orientation, views, climate, structure, planning requirements, materials, engineering, construction methods and cost.
Some things survive.
Some things change.
Some ideas become better.
Gradually, a concept becomes something that can actually be built.
That's the difference between creating an image and creating a FANDR Homestead.
