SHAPED BY NATURE.

BUILT BY CRAFTSMEN.

What is a FANDR Homestead?

A FANDR Homestead brings together simple architectural forms, natural Australian materials and traditional craftsmanship, designed around the way we live today.

We design and build FANDR Homesteads across the Southern Highlands and South Coast of NSW from Bowral and Mittagong to Kiama, Gerringong and Mollymook.

We believe Australia gives us access to some of the most beautiful and durable materials in the world. By combining them with skilled craftsmanship and modern building knowledge, we can create homes that feel timeless, perform beautifully and are built to last for generations

Our Philosophy

“Maybe the answer was to strip it back”

by Nate roussos, Founder

I started as a carpenter, working alongside builders, architects and trades on highly detailed architectural homes. From early on, I was often told the same thing. I needed to dial it back. I was too fussy. Too particular about how things lined up, how they came together and how they were finished.

But I never really understood what I was supposed to dial back.

The care? The detail? The pride in doing something properly?

I didn't want to do that.

Eventually I realised there was another way to look at it. Maybe the craftsmanship didn't need to be dialled back. Maybe the architecture needed to be stripped back.

Look at an old barn or chapel. Many have stood for hundreds of years and they are still beautiful. Their forms are simple. Their proportions are strong. They were built from materials available to the people who made them, and their character came from those materials and the craftsmen who worked with them.

That thinking became the foundation of the FANDR Homestead.

We don't need complexity simply to prove that something has been designed. A simple roof can be beautiful. A timber frame can be both the structure and the finished detail. Stone can be the wall and the finish. When a natural material is allowed to be the finished material, we can remove unnecessary layers and put more of the budget into the things that matter.

For me, that isn't about doing less.

It's about putting more into less.

Give skilled craftspeople beautiful natural materials, strong proportions and enough restraint to let their work be seen, and something special happens.

That's what I want a FANDR Homestead to be.
