Barn draws inspiration from the working agricultural buildings that have long been part of the Australian landscape.

The forms are broad and uncomplicated, creating generous volumes, shelter and a strong connection to the land.

Heavy timber framing plays a major role. Rather than hiding the structure behind layers of finishes, we explore ways for the frame itself to become part of the home. Expressed posts, beams, rafters and trusses are built using traditional framing techniques.

Timber cladding, exposed structure and simple roof forms give these FANDR Homesteads their character.

Timber looks like timber. Structure is allowed to be seen. The work of the craftsman becomes part of the finished home.
